Our whanaunga Dr Kēpa Morgan received the Furkert Award for Sustainability and Clean Technology from IPENZ (Engineers NZ). It is awarded once every two years for minimising non-renewable resource use, waste minimisation or improving sustainability. Dr Morgan received the award for his decision making framework called “The Mauri Model“. This model integrates indigenous values with scientific data into sustainability assessments.

Dr Morgan is a Civil and Environmental Engineering senior lecturer. He is currently based at the University of Hawaii at Hilo, supported by the Ngā Pae o te Maramatanga Fulbright Scholars award he received this year.
