We are excited to announce that our Kia eke Te Ngarue, Kia eke Arapawanui project has received funding from Kaimahi for Nature. The purpose is to employ and train 8 of our whānau to develop our own crew of kaitiaki.
They will work on restoring our awa, Te Ngarue (that flows behind our Marae) and Arapawanui (further north). This will improve the mauri of our wai, the habitat for tuna, and hopefully reduce the sediment harming our reefs and kaimoana.
(Note landowners will be consulted as part of the project)
The aim is also to establish a permanent crew that can contract work in our takiwā from Te Papa Atawhai (DOC), Councils etc.
