We created a video introducing our Hapū and our project on Kuku Rock. The video ends with Perēri King singing Whakarongo Mai, while showing photos of the impact of the cyclone on our Marae, then our whānau working on our recovery.
It was shown at a conference in Wellington called Te Au o Te Moana. The original plan was for us to present in-person, with kōrero from whānau, but due to the impact of the cyclone we sent this video instead. Anaru Luke (Chair of the Kāhui Māori for Sustainable Seas, Kelly May’s husband) was there and introduced it for us.
The purpose of the conference was to bring together the “Sustainable Seas community – researchers, governance, co-developers, Māori partners, stakeholders, and more”.
