This summer there is weed control work in the Tangoio Soil Conservation Reserve as part of the Hawkes Bay Regional Council Forest Crew:
• mid-November 2016 to end of January 2017
• Hourly rate: $16 – $17.50 (dependent on age and experience)
• Requirements: physical fitness (will be working on steep hills) and able to work in a team
• Applications due Wednesday 26 October 2016 (see below for more info)
The work involves carrying knapsack sprayers and tools (machetes) to cut old man’s beard and other weeds, and to spray plants using agrichemicals. There may also be maintenance of the track up to our historic site, Te Pā-o-Toi. The work would suit young university/polytech students (but that isn’t a requirement).
The team will build health and safety management knowledge, crew culture, cultural awareness, use of spatial data, individual leadership talent and technical abilities.
Our whanaunga Bruce Morell, has been doing this mahi for a few years now. Bruce said he liked looking after land in the Tangoio Valley, “It gets me outside and keeps me fit for next rugby season”.
If you or one of your whānau would like to apply, please email a letter of application and a CV to hr@hbrc.govt.nz cc james@hbrc.govt.nz re: Student Work, by Wednesday 26 October.
