Kaiwhakawhanake ā-Hapū (Hapū Development Manager)

The Trust is looking for a Kaiwhakawhanake ā-Hapū to build Hapū capability, self-reliance, connectedness and social cohesion, with a particular focus on rangatahi and kaumātua.  The position will drive and be involved in a wide variety of projects and have specific responsibilities in assisting with the development and implementation of the Strategic and Annual Plans, as well as assisting with funding applications.  The role will also oversee the safe, efficient and effective operation of the Opouahi Wilderness Camp.  This relates to a very focus area of the Trust: Kia niwha (Strong people).

To be successful in this role you will need to have:

  • A proven ability to create and maintain relationships, with a particular affinity with Rangatahi and Kaumātua.
  • Experience in business development, business management and growth.
  • Well-developed project management skills with a proven track record of managing different projects within a reasonably sized and complex business.
  • Leadership skills with managing a small team.
  • Well-developed knowledge of funding environments and proven success in obtaining funding.
  • Excellent writing skills, with a specific focus on funding applications and reporting.
  • Well-developed skills to be able to interact effectively with kaupapa Māori organisations, as well as comfortably within mainstream networks and with all key stakeholders.
  • A developing understanding of the political landscape, relevant legislation and policies that shape and influence development opportunities.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with excellent presentation and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and with initiative.
  • A developing knowledge of the MTT Deed of Settlement and its implementation.
  • A good understanding of Tikanga Māori and te reo Māori.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills.

The role is based in Napier, where some evening and weekend work will be required.  Applicants must have verifiable work rights and eligibility to work in New Zealand.
