Te Tumu Tangitū

Te Tumu Tangitū is our new Hapū Advisory Group for our project He Kāinga Taurikura o Tangitū: Treasured Coastal Environment.  The group includes whānau who are experienced divers and whānau who are passionate about Tangitū.  The first wānanga was held on 16 June 2022, at which whānau advisors discussed their mātauranga, aspirations and concerns for Tangitū and kuku reef at the rivermouth of Te Ngarue.

The members of Te Tumu Tangitū are (standing left to right) in the photo below: Nevada Nathan, Dayna Peterson, Joe Tawhai, Cliff Tarau, Robin Taurima, Rangi Tawhai, Rhodes Kihi-Apuwai, Carl Cotter, Joeseph Taurima, Whetumārama Kire, also Kaumātua Bevan Taylor (not pictured).  In front are Lara (Dayna’s daughter), and project co-leads Kelly May and Hayley Lawrence.

It was awesome to hear the kōrero from our knowledgeable whānau and we look forward to working together on this exciting project!
